VarI community of special interest

General info

What: Variant Interpretation Session at the ISMB 2024 Meeting
When: 15 July, 2024.
Where: Montreal (Canada).

The primary goal of the ISCB Variant Interpretation (VarI) community of special interest (COSI) is to outline and discuss the recent advances in the methodology for the annotation and analysis of genetic variants. Building upon the experience of the previous VarI and SNP COSI editions (Lyon 2023, Madison 2022, Online 2021, 2020, Basel 2019, Chicago 2018, Prague 2017, Dublin 2016, Orlando 2015, Boston 2014, Berlin 2013, Long Beach 2012, Vienna 2011) and other international workshops and meetings (e.g. AIMM2010, CAGI, HGVS 2010 and PSB2011) the VarI-COSI will serve to build a research network, facilitating the exchange of ideas and the establishment of new collaborations within the community. Thus, Vari-COSI will strive to meaningfully contribute to the management of the complexity of the analysis and evaluation of genetic variants. For more information follow us on:

We are interested in works presenting original studies in all the fields of genetic variants research including, but not limited to "genetic variants in": sequence analysis, protein structure and function, protein interactions and molecular networks, transcriptomics and gene regulation, disease models and epidemiology, population genetics and evolution, comparative genomics. Abstracts and posters can be submitted through the following link.

The VarI COSI meeting is broadly divided in two sessions (“Genetic variants as markers: evolution, populations, GWAS” and “Genetic variants as effectors: function, structure, and regulation”) that encompass the four major research topics of the field:

  • Databases, data mining algorithms and visualization tools for variants analysis.
  • Methods for predicting regulatory/structural/functional impact of genetic variations.
  • Personal Genomics, GWAS studies and variant prioritization.
  • Population genomics and phylogenetic analysis.
